This article focuses on some simple instructions to draw a mountain landscape. Mountain landscapes have persistently provided rich cues for artists. They are among the richest in the elements of nature. Be it enticing sunset or the sunrise, flowing rivers or static lakes, rain forest or green pastures, all fill you with brimming romance. The following discussion throws light on how to draw a mountainous topography.

o Elements. Zero upon a view (sunrise, river, farms, or forest), you wish to present through your mountain landscape drawing. Once you are over with that, decide the seasons you wish to cover such as snow-capped mountains, barren desert mountain, or a lush green rain-forest mountain.

o Lines & curves. Mix a blend of macro lines & curves to acquire a real picture of your mountain landscape drawing. Use free hands drawing to form the curved or the crooked lines of the slopes and rivers. A range of mountains, hills, plateaus, sky, grasses, trees, and water bodies are sketched initially with broad outlines, which later merge into the finer details of the mountain landscape you are drawing.

o Shapes. Draw the different shapes of the various elements of mountain landscape. For example, mountains can be drawn as a bottomless triangle with fast & long strokes. Sun can be drawn in circles or semi-circles, or it can be a splurge of warm colors (especially red & orange).

o Texture. Take care of the texture of the subjects of your landscape drawing. The different elements own different textures. They may be warped, scraggy, jagged, or smooth. For example, the flow and the depth of the river, flowing down the mountain, can be shown by this technique. Likewise, a mix of bold & soft lines depicts curves and the slopes of the mountain, whereas the sharp peaks are shown with thin & pointed lines.

o Initiation. Choose the opening point of your drawing. Frame a basic diagram in your mind from how, what, and in what order. For example, the streams are drawn down from the foothills of the mountains, while greenery is mostly drawn on the valley along the river of a snow-capped mountain. Similarly, grazing livestock is also a common vista on a mountain landscape.

o Shadows & highlights. Once you are done with shapes and textures, shadows & highlights are added to the elements of your mountain landscape drawing. A mix of lines and shading are the two key steps of shadows & highlights. For example, the seasons are shown with these techniques. Dull winter is depicted with dark shadows & highlights, while summer and spring seasons are shown by the shadows of bright sun light on the mountain slopes, with the tints of greenery sprinkled on them.

o Colors. A careful selection of colors scheme is vital when painting mountain landscape. Right selection, mixing, shading, and the application of nature's colors are important to bring the right nuance. The sky can be reflected as a clear blue sky, a sunset, a sunrise sky, or an overcast sky. Clouds are mostly shown in whites, off whites, or gray shades. Dull brown color is chosen for barren slopes, whereas white and off-whites are taken for snow peaked mountains.
